The pilot of a gyrocopter died Saturday afternoon when his craft crashed into a field near Scappoose.
The pilot's name was not immediately available.
Witnesses near the scene were able to help pull the pilot from the burning wreckage, but told authorities that the pilot was already deceased by the time they arrived.
Federal Aviation Administration inspectors remained at the scene Saturday looking for clues that might indicate why the craft crashed.
