TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The American Civil Liberties Union has released video showing an 8-year-old boy handcuffed by a school resource officer.

ACLU officials said the boy in the video has ADHD. The organization also released video showing a 9-year-old girl, also a special needs child, receiving the same treatment after acting out during class. (The ACLU added captions to the videos.)

The ACLU said this incident happened in Kentucky in 2014.

The videotapes were released on the same day the ACLU filed a lawsuit against the deputy involved and the local sheriff's department.

The ACLU claims the sheriff's department violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. The organization stated that "law enforcement in schools must be trained on how to work with children with disabilities and trauma. Learning de-escalation skills should be as common as fire drills for schools and any law enforcement officers who serve them."

The school district where this happened issued a statement, and said it will "fully cooperate with the children's legal counsel, as well as the Sheriff's Office, in looking into the complaints."
