NEW YORK (CNN) — The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline decreased to $1.642, down 0.6 of a cent from the previous day’s price of $1.648, AAA reported Friday.

It is the seventh consecutive daily decrease.

The current national average is now $2.472 below the record high price of $4.114 that AAA reported on July 17, 2008. That’s a 60 percent drop.

The last time the national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was near the current price was February 19, 2004, when it averaged at $1.642.
Utah has the cheapest average gas price, $1.456 a gallon. Alaska has the highest, $2.531. Forty-eight states and the District of Columbia have regular unleaded gas prices below $2.
